Our mission

Our team is on a mission to help organizations stay secure and resilient by adopting post-quantum cryptography. Many security and compliance teams haven’t started thinking about PQC migration at all, and every day of delay puts sensitive data at greater risk. Cryptographic posture assessment tools are complex and expensive to implement, and we want to remove that hurdle by offering a simple tool for getting started.

Our story

Ciphersound was founded by security veterans who have helped secure many of the world’s leading technology companies and critical infrastructure providers. As part of this work, they’ve vigilantly looked ahead at emerging challenges that may impact their customers’ resilience. One problem kept rising to the top: how to assess post-quantum cryptography readiness.

Recognizing a market gap in PQC compliance solutions, they developed a simple tool for practitioners to conduct quick cryptographic posture checks. The positive response showed a real need in the market, especially as PQC compliance mandates loom. Ciphersound was launched to build on that early proof of concept, developing it into a free scanner today, with more advanced, premium PQC risk assessment capabilities in the works.

Our founders

Chris Elbring

Chris Elbring is the founder and CEO of Anvil Secure and a serial entrepreneur with more than two decades in information security. He founded Anvil Secure a decade ago, growing it to #9 among security firms on the 2022 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America, with a 1,880% three-year revenue growth. Today, 8 of the 10 largest US tech companies are among its customers.

Chris previously served as the senior vice president of Research and Delivery at IOActive, where he built and led the Seattle hardware hacking lab and oversaw the team behind the widely reported Jeep hacking project, along with a record-setting 14 BlackHat/DEF CON presentations in a single year — the most ever by a single firm.

Vincent Berg

Vincent Berg is a security engineer and software developer with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. As co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Anvil Secure for a decade, he has led the firm’s research and was responsible for the internal development of processes, methodologies, and tools.

At Anvil, he published novel tooling and research, as well as helped establish processes for some of the biggest pentest and security review programs in the world for several hyperscalers. He was the client tech lead of the team that helped Google with its large-scale migration from C++ to Rust. At Anvil, he also released pqcscan, the first of its kind, purpose-built tool that focused solely on PQC issues.

Before Anvil, Vincent spent more than six years at IOActive across Seattle and London, performing black- and white-box penetration testing and source code reviews for Fortune 500 companies worldwide, such as Microsoft.
